The Tamba Abdulai Foundation (TAF) is a community based organization (CBO) founded in 2024 by Tamba Abdulai, a youth leader and alumnus of the Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) Program.
After a transformative year of studying in the United States, Tamba returned to Sierra Leone inspired by the power of education. Seeing how poverty, early marriage, and cultural barriers kept many children — especially girls — out of school, he decided to act.
TAF was born out of his vision for a Sierra Leone where every child has the tools, opportunities, and dignity to reach their full potential.

A track record built with communities in Kono District, one program at a time.
With support from Upgrade for Africa and Les Pastras, TAF launched an education initiative benefiting 80 vulnerable girls across 25 communities — full school support including uniforms, shoes, backpacks, learning materials, solar lights, and tuition. A three-room toilet block was built at Ansaru Islamic Secondary School, and 100 benches and desks were donated to three primary schools.
With support from Upgrade for Africa, Les Pastras, and other individuals, TAF helped 48 young girls from economically disadvantaged backgrounds attend school for the 2024/2025 academic year — complete with uniforms, shoes, backpacks, notebooks, pens, and solar study lights. We also trained rural parents on girls' education and Sierra Leone's law banning early marriage, and donated 30 school benches and desks to K.D.E.C. Primary School in Gbukuma.
With support from the YES Alumni Grant funded by the U.S. Department of State, TAF trained 75 young people in Kono District (July–November 2021) on Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and safe internet use — bridging the digital divide and opening pathways to education, business, and employment.
A YES Program Senior Alumni with degrees in Banking and Finance, Tamba brings strong experience in Monitoring and Evaluation from Partners In Health Sierra Leone, and has worked with local and international organizations to strengthen health systems, promote education, and advance community development. Through TAF, he champions access to education, clean water, and health awareness for children and girls across Sierra Leone.
Holding a Bachelor's degree, a Post Graduate Diploma in Educational Administration, and a Master's Degree in Sustainable Development (Social Sustainability), Sorie has a wealth of experience developing gender-responsive programs that have impacted thousands of lives. He is currently Head of Programme and Administration at Advocate for Social Justice and Development Sierra Leone, a role he has held for 9 years managing donor interventions and funds.
